Praise

Reading a Psalm can help prepare your heart for worship.

Here is the Psalm we are learning this week:

”How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul long, yes faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise!” - Psalm 84:1-4

Proclamation

God brings His truth to us through His Word (the Bible).

This week, we are focusing on these Scriptures:

  • “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)

  • “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.” (I Corinthians 15:1-11)

Take some time to read, reflect and pray over these passages.

Penitence

Penitence is the sense of regret or sorrow for having done something wrong. The Bible explains that “all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory” (Romans 3:23).

Here is a short prayer of confession and repentance that acknowledges our sin and our sense of regret and sorrow for our actions.

Comfort can be found in these words of God’s forgiveness of sins:

  • Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

  • God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

  • If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (I John 2:1-2)

Prayer

Jesus used these words (The Lord’s Prayer) as He taught His disciples how to pray. We are encouraged to take “every anxiety” to Him because our Heavenly Father cares for us (I Peter 5:7).

Spend some time in prayer - taking your needs and the needs of others to God.
